Tencent's first data center in the central and western regions of China began construction on June 10. The center will be located in the Shuitu High-Tech Park in Chongqing's Liangjiang New Area and will be Tencent's fourth data center.

The settlement of the data center has helped solidify Liangjiang's high-tech park as a leading investment destination in China. Data centers for China Unicom, China Telecom, China Mobile, Pacific Telesis, Tencent, Inspur and Phicomm have moved into the park, bringing with them 30.5 billion yuan ($4.91 billion) of investments. The high-tech park will accommodate a total of 815,000 servers upon its completion.

The park has introduced 187 industrial projects over the past five years, involving 126.7 billion yuan in investment. Among them, 22 projects involved investments of 1 billion yuan or more. All of the projects are expected to produce a combined output value of 176.3 billion annually.

More than 20 panel display projects, including those from BOE Technology, LanBoo and Pittsburgh Corning, have settled in the park, forming an electro-optic display industrial chain worth 100 billion yuan. A total of 16 bio-pharmaceutical and medical equipment projects, including Haifu, Winbond Pharmaceutical, and Evaheart artificial heart and stem cells, have also moved in. As did 14 robotics projects, including Kawasaki Robots, national robot evaluation center, and robot training institute. Three innovation and business incubator centers have been built, where start-ups and small and medium-sized enterprises develop with supports and high-quality services.

BOE Technology's 8.5-generation project with investment of 32.8 billion yuan went into operations on April 8. It paved the way for more than 20 panel-related businesses to settle in the park and played an important role in speeding up the development of electro-optic display and electronic information industry in Liangjiang.
