The 2016 Asia Energy Cooperation Forum came to a close on June 28, with all in attendance signing up to the “Chongqing Agreement”, which calls for the establishment of an Asia-wide think-tank on energy cooperation.

The forum, which was held at the Chongqing Yuelai International Convention Center in Liangjiang New Area, was attended by representatives of some 20 Asian nations as well as experts from energy agencies.

During the two-day event, the attendees agreed that a more efficient way of producing and consuming energy is required, particularly as the global energy market has fluctuated so dramatically in the past few years. They also proposed that Asian countries should cooperate more when it comes to energy so that the bloc as a whole can have a greater influence on the world market.

Wang Zhengwei, vice chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, suggested holding regular meetings for Asian energy enterprises and experts, and strengthening communication among energy industry associations, alliances and other related academic organizations.
