Liangjiang becomes first zero-waste zone in Chongqing

Updated: 2020-09-24

Liangjiang New Area in Southwest China's Chongqing municipality recently passed the assessment for zero-waste schools, scenic areas, parks, markets, restaurants, communities, government offices, hospitals and 4S shops, becoming the first zero-waste zone in the city.

Zero-waste is a concept that aims to realize minimum solid waste production, full resource utilization, bio-safety disposal of wastes and low environmental impact by promoting green development and lifestyles.

Take Liangjiang's zero-waste scenic spot Happy Valley as an example. Happy Valley's kitchens utilize oil-smoke purification equipment to reduce air pollution and recycle water to reduce sewage discharge.

Happy Valley also reduces paper consumption by avoiding printed tickets, brochures and maps.

According to Liangjiang's implementation plan for zero-waste city construction, the new area aims to construct a zero-waste pilot this year and see progress in the reduction, recycling and bio-safety disposal of solid wastes.
