During the eight-day National Day holiday from Oct 1 to 8, main commercial areas and commerce companies in Southwest China's Chongqing municipality achieved a total turnover of 27.62 billion yuan ($4.12 billion), a year-on-year increase of 8.3 percent.

Tourists made 11.09 million trips to Chongqing's 253 national A-level scenic spots during the holiday, 86.3 percent of the same period last year. Meanwhile, 1.9 million tourists stayed overnight in Chongqing.

To promote consumption, Chongqing organized an autumn shopping festival covering tourism, entertainment, catering, accommodation, transportation and commerce during the holiday, achieving a 10.4 percent year-on-year increase in sales volume in its six major commercial areas.

Chongqing's various scenic spot tours and suburb tours attracted many visitors, which contributed to increased incomes for the city's accommodation and catering industries. Also, the sales volume of Chongqing's major farmhouse resorts increased by 14.6 percent year-on-year during the holiday.

Chongqing's 20 national A-level scenic spots related to the history of the Communist Party of China received 517,000 visits during the holiday. Other national A-level scenic spots strictly followed the novel coronavirus prevention and control measures and controlled the number of visitors to fewer than 75 percent of their maximum capacity.

The abundant supply of cultural products during the holiday met the needs of visitors. On Oct 1, Chongqing's box office brought in about 20 million yuan; by 9 pm on Oct 8, the number exceeded 100 million yuan.
