The value of first quarter imports and exports in the Liangjiang New Area – located in Southwest China's Chongqing municipality – was 64.9 billion yuan ($10.01 billion), a surge of 75 percent year-on-year, according to the latest statistics.

Out of total foreign trade, the processing trade contributed 29.5 billion yuan, leaping 44 percent year-on-year.

In the first three months of the year, Liangjiang's automobile and electronics information pillar industries posted total foreign trade of 4.5 billion yuan and 17.4 billion yuan, respectively. Foreign trade of electronic information increased by 337 percent year-on-year and that of automobiles increased 66 percent year-on-year.

The growing demand for laptops, tablets and intelligent terminals from international markets has been cited as the main reason for Liangjinag's Q1 foreign trade growth.

Meanwhile, the transportation quality and efficiency of the Chongqing-Xinjiang-Europe International Railway, the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor and the Yangtze River waterway has been significantly improved.

According to Changan Auto, a Liangjiang based automobile manufacturer, the company has exported more than 1,000 vehicles using the Chongqing-Xinjiang-Europe International Railway since the start of the year.

The railway has reportedly connected Chongqing with the world and offers a cost-effective logistics option for companies.

It recently sent its 100th train of the year from Liangjiang's Guoyuan Port. The train was carrying electronic products and liquid crystal display screens and will arrive in Poland's Poznan city in 14 days.
