Chongqing, Sichuan to cooperate on 67 major projects in 2021

According to the Chongqing Development and Reform Commission, Chongqing municipality in Southwest China will cooperate with nearby Sichuan province to construct 67 major projects this year, totaling 1.57 trillion yuan ($242.72 billion) in investment.

Among the projects, 24 are involved in traffic and transportation infrastructure, with a total investment of 491.7 billion yuan - 26.7 billion yuan of which will be in place this year.

The high-speed railway and expressway projects reportedly aim to improve interconnectivity between Chongqing and Sichuan, with shipping hub projects improving the navigation capacity on the Yangtze River waterway.

Some 23 projects are involved in modern industry, with a total investment of 269.8 billion yuan. The projects include one electronics circuits industrial park, one fiberglass industrial park and a Chongqing-Sichuan cooperation industrial park, focusing on high-quality industrial development and cooperation between Chongqing and Sichuan.

To co-construct the Western (Chongqing) Science City, Chongqing and Sichuan co-launched five technology innovation projects to bring more opportunities for technology innovation, recruitment and industrial clusters for both areas.

In addition, Chongqing and Sichuan will cooperate on projects relating to oil and gas resource development, infrastructure, tourism and public services.

Compared to 2020, the total number of the major projects has increased 2.2 times, investment increased by 2.8 times and annual planned investment has increased by 2.6 times.
