The National Hydrogen Energy Power Quality Inspection and Testing Center in Liangjiang New Area, Southwest China's Chongqing municipality, was inaugurated online on Jan 9.

The inauguration ceremony was addressed by Zhang Hongxing, secretary of the Chongqing Liangjiang New Area Party Work Committee, and Pan Fusheng, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and president of the Chongqing Association for Science and Technology, via video link.

Zhang highlighted that hydrogen energy was the most applicable in the automobile industry. In recent years, Liangjiang has gathered a batch of intelligent and connected new energy vehicle manufacturers and auto cell suppliers. It has also carried out demonstration applications in public transport, public sanitation, logistics and touring. The new center is significant for the new area to further complete its new energy industrial layout, and to continue its sustainable development path.

Pan stated that hydrogen energy is zero-emission, highly effective and renewable. Pan hoped that the center will boost the healthy development of the hydrogen energy and the fuel cell battery industries, as well as break new grounds in inspection and testing technologies.

Funded by China Automotive Engineering Research Institute Co, the center has an investment of 500 million yuan ($73.25 million) for its first phase, and is the first of its kind in China. It will be built into a comprehensive service platform integrating testing and authentication, research, standardized systems, technology services, application promotion, industry incubation and equipment development.
