Liangjiang New Area reported an output of 165.2 billion yuan ($24.23 billion) and 218.4 billion yuan in the auto industry and electronics industries, respectively, in 2022, accounting for 36.6 percent and 29.7 percent of Chongqing's total figure.

The intelligent connected new energy vehicle sector was a highlight in 2022, with more than 200 units produced, increasing 300 percent year-on-year, while leading companies such as Changan Auto and Seres released more than 10 new models.

The intelligent connected new energy vehicle sector plays a leading role in Liangjiang's plan to build an auto industry cluster and upgrade the industry chain, according to Fan Yu, director of the Liangjiang New Area Industry Promotion Bureau.

To accelerate industrial transformation in the intelligent connected new energy vehicle sector, Liangjiang has been making efforts to increase applications of the vehicles and promote cooperation between car makers and leading players in relevant industries.

Changan Auto, joined by Huawei and CALT, launched a high-end intelligent car brand, which features an intelligent electronic car platform, an intelligent car brand, and an ecosystem connecting people, vehicles, homes, and energy.

Fan Yu said that in 2023, the new area aims to produce 500 thousand intelligent connected new energy cars and increase the output of the auto industry to more than 200 billion yuan.

In the electronics industry, Liangjiang-based companies have made new breakthroughs. Kunlun glass realized a tenfold increase in drop-resistance over ordinary glasses. Alpha and Omega Semiconductor made the first IGBT in southwest China to be independently developed, designed, water-fabricated, and tested. Xiangdixian Computing Technology unveiled Tianjun No. 1, a graphics processing unit (GPU) with 12-nanometre node technology.

The new area has established a working mechanism to help companies, visiting companies regularly to help them solve problems, and has held events for companies to network, said Fan.

In 2023, new-type displays, intelligent terminals, and integrated circuits will be the three industry clusters of focus in enhancing the electronics industry chain.

The new area will seize the opportunities brought about by the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle to boost the high-quality development of its manufacturing industry, said Fan.

"We will carry out industrial upgrading and transformation, accelerate the development of intelligent connected vehicles and new energy vehicles, and work on a complete new-type displays industry chain, a cluster of integrated circuits, and innovation of new-type displays," Fan added.
