The construction of the teaching building and support facilities of Liangjiang International School, Chongqing Science and Technology University, has entered the final stage and will be officially opened in September.
Operated in partnership by Korea's Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) and Chongqing University of Science and Technology, Liangjiang International School is located in Liangjiang Longxing Industrial Zone, and covers an area of 47 hectares, with a total construction area of about 500,000 square meters, and a total investment of about 1.8 billion yuan ($ 291 million).
The campus includes a teaching area, living areas, public service areas, and a science and technology incubator in four parts. Upon the completion of the second two phases, it will meet the teaching and internship capability for 10,000 students, and a training capability for 5,000 corporate employees.
Zhang Chaohui, party secretary of Liangjiang International School, said that in September, the school would welcome the first batch of up to 6,200 students. He also said that the second phase of the campus construction covering 70,000 square meters is due to complete by 2015 and by September 2017, the number of students will exceed 10,000.
With the ambition of becoming a world leading international school, Liangjiang International School aims to train high-level interdisciplinary students with a global vision and a strong engineering practice background. It will also become an employee training base for Liangjiang New Area's core industries. Through introducing outstanding scientific and technological resources from home and abroad, the school aims to become an important cultural, educational and technological innovation base in Liangjiang New Area.
