China’s Three Gorges reservoir heard the rumble of a high-speed train streaming across the landscape for the first time at 7:06 am on Nov 28.

The train, number C6402, was the first public service on the 245-km stretch of railway between Chongqing North Station and Wanzhou city.

The new trains from Chongqing North Station to Wanzhou North Station will run through five stops: Fusheng Station, Changshou North Station, Changshou Lake Station, Dianjiang Station, and Liangping South Station.

Each stop has its own attractions for tourists and foodies. Foodies can taste different delicacies and dishes no matter which stop they get off. The route also cuts through some spectacular scenery, offering passengers in the aisle seats a visual feast.

With a designed speed of 250km per hour, the travelling time from Chongqing to Wanzhou will be cut from four hours to one and half hours. Each day, 21 pairs of trains will service the route between Wanzhou, Chongqing and Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province.

The opening of the Chongqing-Wanzhou railway has vastly improved railway networks and transportation in general in Southwest China. It is also expected to boost tourism by bringing visitors to areas along the rail line and Three Gorges region.
