May Day holiday boosts Liangjiang's premium shopping

The Liangjiang New Area in Southwest China's Chongqing municipality experienced a veritable shopping bonanza during the May Day holiday, thanks to its marketing and promotional efforts to boost its high-quality commerce.

Smart shopping, stable supplies and newly established shopping centers in Liangjiang reportedly contributed to the wave of spending.

Data from the Liangjiang government indicated that eight demonstration enterprises in the new area reaped sales of about 150 million yuan ($22.5 million) during the period, and three major business circles in the new area received 1.2 million visits during the five-day holiday.

As a successful example of local sales promotions, the Suning Plaza integrated the online and off-line services into its smart retailing activities, designed to satisfy customers with various needs.

Shoppers were allowed to make cups of coffee for themselves, using any kind of coffee machines displayed in the cooking corners of the plaza. Other eye-catching corners either exhibited popular products, enabled customers to enjoy professional e-sports equipment, or created facilities and space for parent-kid activities.

The Liangjiang New Area posted total sales of 87.4 billion yuan and 17.1 billion yuan in retail sales in the first quarter of 2021.

Moving forwards, the government plans to establish Liangjiang as a new gateway for China's inland opening up, as well as an intelligent zone for Chongqing's urban development. Liangjiang will aim to work harder to explore new growth points by achieving green, smart, human-oriented development with a global influence.
