Overall plans for Liangjiang New Area's future development during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25) and guidelines for the new area until 2035 were recently issued by the Chongqing Municipal People's Government, which has set specific requirements and goals for Liangjiang over the 15 years.

The plans state that by 2025, Liangjiang's regional GDP is expected to hit 500 billion yuan ($75 billion), industrial output is expected to reach 800 billion yuan, and the added value of the service industry should amount to around 300 billion yuan.

Six goals have been set in the plans, involving economic performance, breakthroughs in innovation, reform and opening-up, city construction, ecological achievements, and people's livelihoods.

For instance, Liangjiang's investment in scientific research should reach 4.5 percent of total investment, and the number of high-tech enterprises should reach 2,500 by 2025. Meanwhile, the city’s functions will be further enhanced, with city life will be gradually improved, while the public culture service system will become more comprehensive.

According to the guidelines, Liangjiang is also tasked with 11 major missions, including regional coordination, joint innovation, modern industrial system construction, integration into the dual circulation paradigm, demonstration of new policies and mechanisms, in-depth fusion of sports, culture and tourism, sustainable development, and risk prevention and control.
