The Divine Comedy of Salvador Dalí: Now until 23 February 2023

The Divine Comedy of Salvador Dalí is being held at the Qian Art Museum till February 23, 2023, featuring 100 woodcuts by Dalí that illustrate the Divine Comedy, a narrative poem by Dante Alighieri.

Salvador Dalí is considered one of the most significant artists of the 20th century and the most notable surrealist. His work is rife with bizarre images and symbolism, ranging from animal imagery to religious symbols. In 1950, to celebrate the 700th anniversary of the birth of Dante Alighieri, the Italian government commissioned Dalí to illustrate Dante's Divine Comedy, one of the most significant works of Italian literature.

The collection consists of three sections - Hell (EL INFIERNO), Purgatory (EL PURGATORIO), and Paradise (EL PARAÍSO). In the illustrations, Dalí uses a surreal and dreamlike style to depict the journey from the depths of Hell to the splendor of Paradise through the purifying Purgatory.

Artworks Dali created for the Divine Comedy are a masterpiece of artistic exploration and the embodiment of his surrealism, drawing techniques, and understanding of new science, said César Salgado Galiano, curator of the exhibition.
