The Chongqing Research Institute of Jilin University settled in the Liangjiang New Area, Southwest China's Chongqing municipality, on April 9, with a ceremony to celebrate its settlement held on the same day.
In his speech at the ceremony, Zhao Hongwei, vice president of the university, said that the university will continue to settle its research institutes into industrial parks, promote the application of their scientific research into industrial chains, and cultivate talents according to the specific needs of production lines.
Zhou Xiaoqin, president of School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering of Jilin University and president of the new research institute, said that the institute will focus on six fields, including smart manufacturing, automotive engineering, big data, advanced materials, biological technology, and aerospace and aviation. The institute is also set to create four innovative platforms for technology transfers, industry incubation, talent fostering, and high-end R&D.
Letters of appointment were issued to seven professors of the universities at the ceremony. Additionally, the new research institute also signed cooperation contracts with several Chongqing-based enterprises.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
