In the first half of 2023, manufacturers in Liangjiang New Area delivered a total of 113 thousand new energy vehicles (NEVs), up 63 percent year-on-year and accounting for 74.2 percent of Chongqing's total figure.

Serving as a significant platform for Chongqing to develop a world-class cluster of intelligent connected NEVs, Liangjiang is not only home to leading NEV makers such as Chang an Auto, SERES, and Livan Auto, but also the cradle of several NEV brands, including Deepal, AITO, and Avatr.

After years of development, Liangjiang sees a comprehensive range of NEV products covering passenger and commercial vehicles. Liangjiang-made NEVs have made a presence in the mainstream to upper middle market with positive customer feedback, said Lai Han, deputy director of Liangjiang Industry Promotion Bureau.

Deepal, a NEV brand under the industry giant Changan Auto, sold more than 40 thousand vehicles and was among the top 10 best-selling NEVs in the year's first half.

Following the debut of the Deepal S7 model in Paris and Shanghai this March, the Deepal SL03 model won the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2023 in May. By 2025, at least six new Deepal models will hit the market, covering a broader market and meeting different travel demands.

According to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, production and sales of new energy vehicles (NEVs) reached 3.79 million and 3.75 million units, respectively, in the first half of 2023. This represents a significant increase of 42.4 percent and 44.1 percent, with NEVs now accounting for a market share of 28.3 percent. As a result, manufacturers are stepping up efforts to develop new products and capitalize on this growing sector.

In the second half of 2023, Liangjiang will see a further enriched range of products, according to Lai. For instance, Avatr, a joint EV brand by Huawei, Changan Auto, and CATL, will equip the Avatr 11 model with Huawei ADS2.0, an advanced intelligent driving system, in the second half of 2023. Avatr 12 is scheduled to be delivered by the end of 2023, followed by two more new models to be launched in 2024. The company expects new products to keep increasing sales and gain market share in the ranging market from 300 thousand to 400 thousand yuan ($56,000), according to Tan Benhong, CEO of Avatr Technology.
