In the first half of this year, the Shanghai-Chongqing direct express line operated 530 ships, effectively showing the development potential of the Yangtze River Golden Waterway.
The Shanghai-Chongqing direct express line is a rapid water transport route on the Yangtze River. It has been in operation since May 2019, providing services between Chongqing Port - Taicang Port (Shanggang Zhenghe Dock) - Shanghai Port (including Waigaoqiao Port Area and Yangshan Port Area).
By the end of July, the Shanghai-Chongqing direct express line had operated a total of 5,523 hauls, carrying 1.39 million TEUs of import and export goods. The average sailing time for downstream trips (from Chongqing to Shanghai) is 11 days, while the average sailing time for upstream trips (from Shanghai to Chongqing) is 15.8 days, more than 40 percent faster than before the express line was launched.
Ever since the Shanghai-Chongqing direct express line opened, the cargo distribution and service capabilities in the Yangtze River basin's hinterland have improved, attracting more cargo from the upper reaches of the river to arrive in Chongqing.
Chongqing's Liangjiang New Area has collaborated with Chongqing Customs and other departments to strengthen coordination with ports in Sichuan, extending the Shanghai-Chongqing direct express line to Sichuan and reducing the "water-water transfer" time by approximately two days.
Currently, the Sichuan-Chongqing-Shanghai foreign trade container liner service departs from Yibin Port and reaches Shanghai Port in 12 days.
