The 2024 High-Level Seminar between the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) will convene on Nov 8 in Liangjiang New Area, Chongqing.

This year's seminar, themed "Digital Innovation for Inclusive and Sustainable Development", will gather representatives from international and regional organizations. These include the ITU, the African Telecommunications Union (ATU), the Inter-American Telecommunication Commission (CITEL), the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT), the Regional Commonwealth in the Field of Communications (RCC), and the Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA).

Approximately 200 delegates from nearly 20 countries, including China, the United Arab Emirates, Brazil, France, Russia, Italy, Tanzania, and Singapore, will attend. ITU deputy secretary-general Tomas Lamanauskas will deliver a speech at the opening ceremony.

The seminar will unveil several collaborative outcomes between the MIIT and the ITU, including the "AI for Good: Innovation Expanding Impact Final Report". Three thematic sessions will discuss the fair, reasonable, and efficient use of global radio-frequency resources, the achievement of universal and meaningful connectivity, and the promotion of green digital transformation.

Key topics include space for sustainable development, digital innovation and entrepreneurship, and the practice of ICT-enabled digital and green coordinated development.

The event will also feature the "Partner2Connect (P2C) Roundtable Forum - Promoting Digital Alliances and Cooperation" side meeting. Concurrently, the ITU will provide emerging technology training and organize related cultural activities.

A local official noted that this seminar aims to further strengthen the interaction and cooperation between Chongqing, the MIIT, and the ITU. It will enhance high-level openness, accelerate the construction of an inland open comprehensive hub, and advance the role of information and communication technology in enabling the high-quality development of Chongqing's economy and society.

The ITU, a United Nations agency responsible for information and communication technologies, comprises 194 member states and plays a crucial role in managing global radio-frequency resources, setting technical standards, and bridging the digital divide.
