On Oct 30, a freight train loaded with "Made in Chongqing" electromechanical products departed from Yuzui Railway Freight Station, marking the inaugural journey of the Chongqing-Guangzhou Scheduled Freight Train.
A local official noted that this new service will strengthen cooperation between Guoyuan Port in Liangjiang New Area and Nansha Port in Guangzhou, further enhancing logistics collaboration between the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle.
The train, carrying 28 containers of goods valued at nearly 10 million yuan ($1.40 million), is expected to arrive at Guangzhou's Nansha Port in 48 hours. From there, the cargo will be transferred onto international shipping lines bound for countries in the Middle East and Africa, including the UAE, Togo, Ghana, and Mozambique, using a seamless "one bill of lading, one container" process.
The scheduled freight train service features fixed routes, schedules, prices, and train numbers, providing a more efficient and reliable logistics solution. The journey time has been reduced from 72 hours to 48 hours, offering a faster and more cost-effective export route for Chongqing-made products.
In the first three quarters of this year, the Chongqing-Guangzhou corridor has shown significant growth in both volume and quality. Guoyuan Port and Nansha Port operated 104 rail-sea intermodal freight trains, handling 5,637 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units), a 9.48 percent increase year over year.
The corridor has played a crucial role in exporting Chongqing-manufactured vehicles. Over 20,000 vehicles from brands such as Changan and Wuling, valued at over 2 billion yuan, have been transported via this route.
