Liangjiang New Area introduced its first response bus service on May 6, marking a significant step toward more flexible and convenient public transportation.
The newly launched Route 3661 serves the Jianing and Fu'an communities. It has 40 stops, including Jinshan Temple Station, Longtang Lake Park Station, and Happy Valley Bus Terminal.
The route operates in an area with two middle schools, three primary schools, and 11 kindergartens, providing convenient short trips for residents. This service benefits 58,000 locals and tourists by facilitating school commutes, grocery shopping, and outings.
The fare is 2 yuan ($0.28) per ride, matching regular pricing. The bus offers perks such as free transfers within an hour and discounts for seniors and students. During the first week of operation, from May 6 to 12, passengers can enjoy rides for just 0.01 yuan.
Passengers can access the service by searching for the "Response Bus" mini-program on WeChat or scanning a QR code. The system is designed to be user-friendly, even for those unfamiliar with digital processes, such as some elderly passengers. They can board at designated response bus stops, inform the driver of their destination, and pay by card.
"It's very easy to use. I tried the response bus this morning through the mini-program, and it only took me a minute," said Ms Zhao, a resident in her 60s.
Liangjiang plans to expand response transit services to more regions, enhancing public transport access to schools, hospitals, communities, tourist attractions, and businesses.
