The Xinghui community in Liangjiang New Area has introduced the "Community Care Canteen" initiative. According to Deng Qin, Party secretary of the community, this collaborative effort between the government, businesses, and community organizations is designed to provide affordable meals and home delivery services to vulnerable groups and newly employed individuals, including couriers, express couriers, and ride-hailing drivers.
The canteen operates daily from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm, offering meals at discounted prices. A meal consisting of soup, one meat dish, and one vegetable dish is available for 12 yuan ($1.67), with a discounted rate of 10 yuan for seniors over 60 and newly employed individuals. A meal with soup, two meat dishes, and one vegetable dish is priced at 16 yuan, with a reduced rate of 13 yuan.
The canteen has also launched an initiative to deliver meals to special groups at no cost, including disadvantaged families, people with disabilities, and seniors aged 80 and above. These recipients receive two insulated lunch boxes, which are collected and cleaned by delivery personnel after use.
The canteen's services have already reached over 100 residents in the community, with plans to adjust services based on demand. Community residents can also redeem free meals through the "Xingxin Yizhan" mini-program's points exchange system.
