Liangjiang New Area has solidified its position as a key player in the new energy vehicle (NEV) sector, with production soaring to 194,000 units from January to April, a year-on-year growth of 83.2 percent.
A standout in this growth story is Avatr, a high-end intelligent electric vehicle brand developed by Changan Automobile in partnership with Huawei and CATL. In April alone, Avatr set a new sales record with 11,681 units sold, a 122.6 percent increase compared to the previous year.
Chen Zhuo, president of Avatr, noted that the company's success has been driven by the launch of four new models, the vehicle development expertise of its partners, intelligent automotive solutions, and smart energy ecosystems, which have allowed the brand to establish a strong presence in the high-end market.
Another highlight is Seres, which reported NEV sales of 31,488 units in April, a 12.99 percent increase year-on-year. The company's AITO M9 model achieved cumulative sales of 36,439 units from January to April, representing a 41.19 percent growth.
The NEV penetration rate in Liangjiang reached an impressive 54.5 percent in the first four months of 2025, outpacing the national average by approximately 6.7 percentage points.
Lai Han, director of Liangjiang industry promotion bureau, emphasized the area's commitment to technological innovation as a key driver in the competitive landscape of emerging car manufacturers.
In 2024, R&D investment in Liangjiang's automotive sector reached 3.2 percent, resulting in several industry-leading technological advancements. This progress increased the per-unit value of new energy models to 205,000 yuan ($28,456), marking a significant leap in the automotive industry's value chain.
