In a significant step towards modernizing urban governance, Liangjiang New Area has entered into a pilot cooperation agreement with Chongqing Water & Environment Group to establish an integrated operational mechanism for its drainage systems.

This landmark agreement initiates a new era in the management and maintenance of the drainage network, which extends approximately 3,729 kilometers across Liangjiang.

According to the agreement, the group will be responsible for daily operations, safety, environmental protection, drainage, flood prevention, and emergency response within the designated zones.

Drainage networks are critical components of urban infrastructure, and their construction and renovation are essential public welfare projects that have a profound impact on refined urban management and sustainable development.

In 2024, Liangjiang became the first area in the city to integrate river, lake, plant, and network management, paving the way for innovative governance in the water resources sector of megacities.

This initiative unified the management of rivers, lakes, drainage, and water supply under a centralized urban governance structure, achieving comprehensive oversight across inventory, management, operations, and enforcement.

This agreement marks a critical step forward in the broader urban sewage treatment reform campaign, enhancing the quality and efficiency of municipal facility management in Liangjiang.
