The project, launched in 2024 in the Guoyuan Port Comprehensive Bonded Zone, handles the simple processing and packaging of automotive components before exporting knock-down kits to Changan's overseas plants for assembly.

Ambassador Austin described the project as highly modern, saying such facilities are crucial for international trade.

"We are very interested in how imports are handled here, because New Zealand is a long way from China," he said, emphasizing the need for New Zealand products to reach inland China in top condition, while expecting Chinese-manufactured goods to be delivered to New Zealand using fast and cost-effective logistics.
