Chongqing automotive industry embraces intelligent development

Lifan Technology Group Co recently held a brand launch event in Chongqing, marking a significant transition from traditional vehicle manufacturing to a new era of intelligent and international development.

Chongqing, long known for its robust vehicles, reliable engines, and extensive supply chain, is now evolving into a hub of innovation in the automotive industry. Changan Automobile, a former leader in fuel vehicles, has repositioned itself as a key player in the new energy vehicle sector.

The company has introduced three digital intelligent new energy vehicle brands: Avtr, Deepal, and Qiyuan. From January to August 2025, Changan reported sales of 1.8 million units, with an impressive average compound growth rate of 80.9 percent in new energy over the past five years.

The high concentration of complete vehicle manufacturers in Chongqing enhances both the upstream and downstream industrial chains. The city is becoming a production base for new technologies and applications in smart electric driving, intelligent driving, and smart cockpits.

Liangjiang New Area, a central hub for Chongqing's development of intelligent connected new energy vehicles, hosts nine complete vehicle manufacturers and over 280 large-scale component companies.

Leading enterprises such as Changan and Seres are spearheading the integration of over 1,000 upstream and downstream enterprises. From January to August this year, new energy vehicle production reached 539,000 units, accounting for 78 percent of the city's total output.

The city's automotive industry fosters in-depth integration of innovation and industrial chains, with technological innovation at the forefront. Changan Automobile plans to invest 200 billion yuan ($28.05 billion) in the automotive field over the next decade.

Liangjiang has also launched a series of initiatives, including the development of a diversified financial system and the creation of more real-world applications, to further strengthen its position as a leader in intelligent connected new energy vehicle innovation.
