Liangjiang New Area presented its urban renewal policies, successful case studies, and a comprehensive list of opportunities at the 2025 China (Chongqing) Urban Renewal Forum and Resource Matching Conference on Oct 31, in celebration of World Cities Day.
Liangjiang, renowned for its advantageous geographical location and well-developed transportation network, serves as a major economic driver for Chongqing. In 2024, the region's GDP exceeded 500 billion yuan ($70.27 billion).
The area has implemented a robust urban renewal mechanism focused on enhancing urban functionality, boosting industrial capabilities, and improving public welfare. It has also issued guidelines for industrial transformation and upgrading, offering investors clear policy support and guidance for engaging in urban renewal efforts.
A key aspect of these policies is a five-year transition period that supports project transformation by introducing new business formats and industries. During this period, buildings may undergo functional changes without affecting land use or ownership, and land value assessments are made at reduced rates post-transition.
Successful urban renewal projects in Liangjiang encompass a range of areas, including old neighborhoods, outdated commercial zones, and former industrial sites. Notable projects include:
Jinshan Yiku: This initiative transformed unused factories into a cultural and creative industrial hub, attracting over 500 million yuan in investment and reaching a 90 percent occupancy rate.
Longxing Ancient Town: With a total investment of 400 million yuan, this project focused on preserving the area's rich cultural heritage while enhancing cultural experiences.
