Liangjiang New Area witnessed remarkable consumer activity during the New Year holiday from January 1 to 3, with total retail sales surpassing 600 million yuan ($85.80 million) and foot traffic in commercial districts exceeding 4 million visits.

The holiday was marked by heightened consumer enthusiasm, fueled by new store openings, dining experiences, and themed shopping attractions. The impact of these new stores extends beyond their initial debut, as they continue to adapt to evolving consumer needs and redefine the commercial landscape.

The first-store economy has broadened the area's consumption base and stimulated consumer demand by introducing new categories, styles, and experiences.

For example, Miniso's newly opened store, which combines virtual and real-world design elements with bright colors and interactive experiences, has attracted Gen Z consumers and become a trendy gathering spot for local youth.

Guanyinqiao commercial district also features a diverse array of flagship and specialty stores, including Muji's largest flagship in Southwest China, Shogun Burger's first location in the region, and the debut Chongqing outlets of Korean fashion brands Grvrgrove and Smfk.

Guanyinqiao district introduced 92 new stores from January to October 2025, including 12 national firsts and 36 southwest firsts.

The catering sector also experienced significant growth, driven by rising demand for year-end gatherings and family meals. Many restaurants reported a surge in inquiries and reservations.

Major supermarkets in Liangjiang such as Yonghui and Walmart launched New Year-themed promotions, focusing on family dining, holiday gifting, and leisure travel.
