Changan Automobile commenced construction on its Global Science and Art Center on Jan 10 in Liangjiang New Area.

The 1.39 billion yuan ($199.28 million) project aims to integrate scientific and artistic research, focusing on breakthroughs in key technologies related to new energy and intelligent driving. It will also serve as an innovation incubator, supporting the development of Changan's Avatr, Deepal, and Qiyuan smart new energy brands.

The center is designed to accommodate 2,000 R&D and design professionals, fostering a collaborative environment that complements the existing industries in Liangjiang. It will help build an integrated ecosystem that links advanced scientific and artistic research, engineering development capabilities, and intelligent manufacturing bases, strengthening Changan's foundation for global expansion.

Changan Automobile achieved annual sales of 2.91 million vehicles in 2025 and celebrated the production of its 30 millionth Chinese brand vehicle in December. This rapid growth is underpinned by robust R&D capabilities, which remain a major competitive advantage for the company.

Changan has remained steadfast in its commitment to independent technology research and development, having established a global R&D network spanning Chongqing, Beijing, and Yokohama, Japan.

The company boasts a team of over 24,000 technology developers from 31 countries and regions and has built more than 200 laboratories. It has filed over 14,000 patent applications over the past three years, with 70 percent being invention patents.

The new facility aligns with Chongqing's modern manufacturing systems. Changan Automobile will continue to utilize its R&D base to strengthen the development of core technologies, contributing to the high-quality growth of China's automotive industry and advancing towards its goal of becoming a world-class automotive group.
