The China Region Final Contest of the 2026 Singapore National Olympiad in Informatics (SGNOI) began on March 14 at the National University of Singapore (NUS) Chongqing Research Institute in Liangjiang New Area.
This prestigious event, one of Asia's most influential in the field of informatics, marks the first time that an offline finals venue has been established in China.
Professor Chen Jingsheng, executive vice-president of the NUS Chongqing Research Institute, emphasized that the launch of the China Regional Finals is a significant milestone in the competition's internationalization, showcasing the successful educational collaboration between Singapore and China.
Qin Yingfei, representing the China Software Industry Association, noted that the competition offers outstanding Chinese participants the opportunity to meet international standards, marking an important step toward localizing international talent selection processes.
Ma Jiupeng, a local official, highlighted the longstanding collaboration history in information and communication technology and educational technology under the China-Singapore (Chongqing) Demonstration Initiative on Strategic Connectivity. He encouraged participants to showcase their skills and excel in algorithmic challenges.
Liangjiang is advancing toward becoming a leading modern education hub in China. The area is currently home to over 15,000 software companies and has implemented several educational pilot projects, achieving notable success in integrating educational technology and cultivating top-tier innovative talent.
