Chongqing Beer has commenced production of its "Chongqing Guobin" variety in Malaysia, marking a significant milestone as the first Chinese beer brand to achieve overseas local brewing.
The beer, produced at Carlsberg Malaysia's brewery, is known for its signature crisp and refreshing taste. Packaged in 490ml cans with an alcohol content of 3.8 percent, it is now available at 99 Speedmart, Malaysia's largest mini-mart chain.
This achievement is largely attributed to support from Carlsberg Group, the major shareholder of Chongqing Beer, which has focused on fostering the growth of local Chinese brands.
Stefano Clini, managing director of Carlsberg Malaysia, noted the increasing interest among Malaysian consumers for Chinese brands and cuisine. "Chongqing Beer's entry into the Malaysian market offers a new product choice and enhances the experience of Chinese culinary culture," he said.
Li Zhigang, president of Chongqing Brewery Co and a Malaysian Chinese, emphasized his personal connection to the project. "Bringing Chongqing Beer to Malaysia is the culmination of collaborative efforts by Chinese and Malaysian teams and represents an active attempt to promote Chinese brands in overseas markets," Li said. "We hope this will allow more Malaysian consumers to enjoy the unique taste of Chongqing Beer, especially when paired with hot pot and spicy dishes."
