Liangjiang enhances primary healthcare

In Tieshanping subdistrict of Liangjiang New Area, it is now easier than ever for 76-year-old Mr Zhang to get his monthly blood pressure check-ups. Previously, he had to endure a half-hour bus ride to the community health service center — now he can complete his check-up at a nearby health center in just five minutes.

Zhang's experience highlights Tieshanping's dedication to enhancing its family doctor program by streamlining service processes, adopting innovative service models, and expanding service accessibility.

The subdistrict has established family doctor health stations in the Wuliping, Dongfeng, and Gangcheng communities, and has converted idle COVID-19 testing booths into mini-clinics, equipped with blood pressure monitors, blood glucose meters, and electrocardiogram (ECG) machines.

The subdistrict employs a model combining fixed stations, regular visits, and home visits at each health center, offering one-stop services such as disease diagnosis, chronic disease management, and traditional Chinese medicine care.

Residents can access all basic public health services and general medical consultations at these stations. For prevalent chronic diseases like hypertension and diabetes, the stations provide free daily blood pressure and blood sugar tests, with doctors offering immediate explanations and guidance on medication, diet, and exercise.

Special records are kept for residents with poor health indicators, ensuring direct referrals to higher-level hospitals in emergencies.

For residents with limited mobility and those living alone, family doctor teams conduct regular home visits, providing check-ups, home rehabilitation, and medication adjustments, while also assessing health risks and maintaining a special care list.

Tieshanping's health centers conducted over 4,500 medical consultations in the first half of this year, offering free health check-ups to more than 700 residents, creating over 190 new health records and facilitating family doctor contracts for over 6,000 residents.
