The Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) and China Automotive Engineering Research Institute Co (CAERI), based in Chongqing Liangjiang New Area, released ASEAN's first Intelligent Vehicle Safety Assessment (ASEAN NCAP IVASA) on July 28.

The core assessment technology and equipment for this protocol were developed by CAERI, providing technical support for building an intelligent vehicle safety assessment system in ASEAN and offering Chinese automotive companies overseas testing services tailored to local market conditions.

The protocol focuses on three main areas: basic driving assistance, combined driving assistance, and intelligent cockpit interaction, evaluating whether vehicle-related functions are safe, reliable, and adaptable to the local road traffic environment.

This protocol, tailored to the ASEAN region's unique features — such as widespread motorcycle use, roundabouts, and specific road conditions and driving habits — provides a valuable reference for government regulation, corporate product development, and consumer vehicle purchases.

CAERI undertook tasks such as designing the assessment framework, drafting protocols, developing test scenarios, researching scoring methods, and conducting real vehicle validations.

The company also provided self-developed testing equipment for combined driving assistance systems.

Zhang Qiang, a representative of CAERI, noted that the collaboration involved technical discussions and vehicle testing in both China and Malaysia.

CAERI has used the automotive index as a key tool to advance several multinational cooperation initiatives, including projects with the EU's Green NCAP and ASEAN NCAP, establishing a standard pathway for Chinese automotive products to go global.

CAERI plans to accelerate the refinement of protocols and enhance testing capabilities, forming a standardized operational mechanism that covers technical research, testing evaluation, and result publication.
