Liangjiang launches bonded maintenance for medical devices

The Chongqing Lianglu Guoyuan Port Comprehensive Bonded Zone dispatched 15 minimally invasive surgical devices and components on Aug 27 in Liangjiang New Area, marking the launch of Southwest China's first bonded maintenance program for medical devices.

Spearheaded by Chongqing Xishan Science & Technology Co, this initiative involves importing overseas equipment into the bonded zone for repair. There, the equipment undergoes professional inspection, repair, and testing before being re-exported to international clients.

Xishan Technology, which holds over 1,300 valid patents, distributes its products in more than 40 countries and regions, including Latin America, Europe, and Southeast Asia.

Previously, when equipment malfunctioned overseas, the company faced costly choices: sending engineers abroad with spare parts or replacing the equipment entirely, both of which impeded service efficiency in international markets.

To address these challenges, Xishan has established a subsidiary in the bonded zone to conduct bonded maintenance on five categories of returned international products: surgical power devices, endoscopic systems, ultrasonic surgical equipment, plasma surgical devices, and high-frequency surgical equipment.

"The current bonded maintenance policies allow us to reduce our overall maintenance costs by 20 percent,” said a Xishan representative. “Faulty equipment from around the globe can be shipped back to Chongqing, where we use original parts and professional engineers for maintenance, ensuring higher quality and standardization."

The bonded zone has now become a hub for diverse bonded maintenance businesses, including those in electronics, automotive parts, and medical devices.
