Southwest China's Chongqing municipality recently started constructing green communities, aiming to make more than 30 percent of communities green by 2021 and more than 60 percent green by 2022.

Green communities refer to those with environmentally friendly soft and hard facilities that have complete ecological management systems that allow all the residents to participate.

To achieve the goal of constructing green communities, Chongqing will establish communication and discussion platforms at the community-level, solve waterlogging problems and improve domestic waste delivery, collection and transportation. It will also add more public activity areas and facilities, plan reasonable parking areas, construct assistance facilities for old and disabled people and solve residents' problems.

Chongqing will also encourage property service companies to develop online and offline services and guide communities to release conventions on protecting cultural relics, historical buildings and ancient trees.

Take the Wanzishan community of Liangjiang's Renhe sub-district as an example. To become a green community, it has planted 26,000 square meters of trees and bushes, occupying 38 percent of the community’s total area.

The community also has fitness facilities and is within walking distance of several parks. It released a convention encouraging residents to save water and electricity, use less disposable plastic bags, sort their garbage, protect the flowers and trees in the community and refrain from selling or eating wild animals and plants under national protection.
