Southwest China's Chongqing municipality was recently approved by the Ministry of Industry and Information to establish a national pilot area for internet of vehicles in its Liangjiang New Area.

The pilot area will create cellular vehicle-to-everything (C-V2X), a network allowing vehicles to communicate with each other on major expressways and roads in the city.

Based on its industrial foundation and complicated traffic situation, Chongqing will enhance technological innovation and product R&D to create abundant scenarios for internet of vehicles application and to attract more users.

Chongqing will also strengthen policy and system innovation to establish healthy and sustainable construction and operation modes for internet of vehicles. It will build open, sharing cloud service platforms, complete its security management systems and promote its successful experience to the country.

Internet of vehicles is a new industry integrating automobiles, electronics, information communication and road transportation.

When the pilot area is established, Liangjiang will realize the coordination of people, vehicles, roads and cloud services, making the internet of vehicles system more integrated, innovative, safe and competitive.

So far, Liangjiang has built hundreds of kilometers of demonstration roads for internet of vehicles, and projects for intelligent vehicle testing and 5G automatic driving, to promote the application of internet of vehicles.

The internet of vehicles pilot project at Liangjiang Coordinative Zone has created 4 km of demonstration roads for vehicle-road coordination, intelligent city management, city patrols and remote driving. The area is also capable of driver assistance demonstrations and testing for automatic driving vehicles.

According to the plan, Liangjiang will complete the construction of infrastructure for internet of vehicles before the end of 2021 and realize coverage of internet of vehicles application before the end of 2023.
