The sixth generation of the flexible active matrix organic light emitting diode (AMOLED) production line of Chongqing BOE Optoelectronics Co officially achieved mass production on Dec 28, according to reports by Chongqing Daily. The company is located in Liangjiang New Area, Southwest China's Chongqing municipality.
Independently designed, developed, and constructed by BOE, the production line project involves an investment of 46.5 billion yuan ($7.3 billion), and occupies an area of 970,000 square meters, focusing on offering world-leading medium and small-sized flexible display products and related solutions, which will be widely applied in new-generation flexible smart phones, foldable laptops and in-vehicle displays.
The project will have a scale effect together with BOE's other two flexible display manufacturing bases in Chengdu and Mianyang, Sichuan province.
BOE has laid out plans for six major projects in Chongqing, which is serving as a strategic base for its display and internet of things businesses. The projects include the 8.5th generation of its thin film transistor-liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) production line and its intelligent systematic innovation center, which have a total investment exceeding 86 billion yuan.
Led by BOE, Liangjiang's LCD output in 2021 enjoys a year-on-year increase of nearly 30 percent; its electronic information sector registered 205.6 billion yuan in output value during January-November this year, up 24 percent year-on-year.
