Chongqing fuses internationality into local consumption

Since July 2021, when the State Council approved the construction of international consumption center cities in Chongqing and five other cities, the average annual growth rate of Chongqing's total social retail sales has been 3.8 percent, 0.3 percentage points higher than the national average.

Chongqing has cultivated 18 Chinese time-honored brands and 291 Chongqing time-honored brands. In the past two years, the export volume of automobiles made in Chongqing has grown by 195.3 percent, and the export volumes of specialty products such as Fuling pickled vegetables have increased by around 50 percent.

Chongqing has built 49 urban core commercial districts, 12 one-billion-yuan ($139.4 million) commercial districts, 23 municipal characteristic commercial blocks, and 80 urban consumption landmarks.

By formulating forward-looking and inclusive regulatory policies and overcoming policy barriers hampering the nighttime economy, as well as furthering promotional activities and cross-door trading, Chongqing welcomed the flagship stores of 341 brands in the first three quarters of this year, a 216-percent increase from the same period last year.

As a key area for Chongqing to become an international consumption center city, Liangjiang New Area is accelerating the expansion of new consumption supply, driven by technology empowerment and consumption upgrade.

It is also speeding up the cultivation of new business formats and models and introducing community retail.
