The Matchmaking Meeting between Chongqing and Enterprises Attending the "NDRC and US Multinational Enterprises Roundtable Meeting·Chongqing" was held in Liangjiang New Area, Chongqing, on Oct 21.
Yuan Jun, general manager of Chongqing Cummins Engine Co, shared insights into the company's development journey during the event.
Cummins, founded in 1919 and headquartered in the United States, is a leading global provider of power solutions. It designs, manufactures, and distributes a diverse range of power solutions and offers comprehensive service support.
Its products include diesel and natural gas engines, generator sets, alternators, emission treatment systems, and key engine components, as well as hydrogen production, storage, and fuel cell technologies.
Cummins entered China in 1975 and now operates 37 entities in the country, including 26 manufacturing facilities, employing over 13,000 people.
Chongqing Cummins specializes in the research and production of heavy-duty and high-horsepower diesel and gas engines, with power ranges from 185 to 3,150 kilowatts.
These engines are widely used in generator sets, heavy-duty trucks, construction machinery, mining equipment, oil and gas field machinery, rail equipment, port machinery, marine propulsion and auxiliary power units, pump power units, and other power systems.
In 2022, Chongqing Cummins invested 1.5 billion yuan ($210.59 million) to establish a new state-of-the-art high-horsepower R&D and manufacturing base in Liangjiang. The facility has now begun operating, significantly contributing to the company's growth.
In the first half of this year, Chongqing Cummins achieved a 31 percent year-on-year increase in output value. Building on the new base, the company plans to enhance product innovation by leveraging its R&D capabilities.
It is exploring new energy technologies using alternative fuels such as methanol, ammonia, and biodiesel, as well as hybrid technologies. It is integrating Cummins' hydrogen technology to develop diversified power solutions that combine traditional energy, new energy products, and energy storage systems.
Moreover, Chongqing Cummins is committed to investing in digital transformation to become a new global benchmark in high-horsepower engine R&D and manufacturing. The company focuses on intelligent manufacturing, green manufacturing, and technological innovation, successfully transforming and upgrading its traditional manufacturing processes.
It has been recognized as a national-level green factory and certified as an intelligent factory and digital workshop by Chongqing Municipality.
