Jan 3 marks the fifth anniversary of the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle, a milestone in the collaborative development of this dynamic region.
Over the past five years, Liangjiang New Area in Chongqing and Tianfu New Area in Chengdu have played pivotal roles in driving progress. They have established eight flagship industry alliances in sectors such as automotive and electronics, bringing together over 90 leading enterprises and nearly 1,000 member companies.
Focusing on the smart connected new energy vehicle sector, Liangjiang has driven the automotive industry's transformation. From January to November, the area produced nearly 1.07 million vehicles, a 10.5 percent year-on-year increase, and achieved an output value of 221.08 billion yuan ($30.29 billion), a 39.1 percent increase.
In integrated circuits, new displays, and smart terminals, Liangjiang has developed clusters of "cloud computing, connectivity, data, and applications" and complete industrial chains such as "chips, screens, devices, cores, and networks".
Over the past five years, leading domestic and international companies, such as BOE and Corning, have established or expanded projects in the area.
Liangjiang has accelerated the construction of new urban areas such as Longsheng New City, Shuitu New City, and Liangjiang Digital Economy Industrial Park, enhancing its capacity to accommodate industrial transfers.
With over 90 testing and certification institutions, the area leads Chongqing in serving key sectors, including automotive and parts, life health, new materials, and electronic information.
Liangjiang is also a software and information services hub, hosting 5,200 software companies. It has established a resource-sharing channel linking to Tianfu.
The area has developed a cost-effective and efficient multimodal transport system and established four corridors for international trade. Guoyuan Port handled over 26 million metric tons of cargo from January to November, a 4.3 percent year-on-year increase.
