A business promotional event organized by the Consulate General of the United States was held in Southwest China's Chongqing municipality on May 7, according to Chongqing Daily.

During the promotional event, enterprises from US and China gathered together and discussed potential cooperation in different areas, including the information industry, industrial energy conservation industry and in emission reduction.

"Both China and the US are now facing the challenge of the urbanization process," said Gu Liyan, the US Consul General in Chengdu.

According to Gu, Chongqing and a number of US cities are facing traffic congestion problems. To help solve congestion problems, smart information technology systems can be used to better control traffic lights according to traffic demand. Enterprises from the US are experienced in this area and can provide the solutions, said Gu.

Eight enterprises from the US, including Dell, T.Y. Lin International and Intel attended the promotion to seek further cooperation with Chongqing enterprises in the construction of a smart city.

Gu said that T.Y. Lin International had signed a cooperation agreement with Chongqing enterprises to help implement technology to bring about the construction of a smart city.
