Chongqing Tencent Cloud Computing Data Center started its construction in Liangjiang New Area on June 10, further consolidating Liangjiang's leading position in cloud computing industry in West China.

Tencent, China's largest Internet service company, which also ranks among the strongest in the world, has invested 3 billion yuan ($483 million) in the Chongqing Cloud Computing Industrial Park in Liangjiang to construct its new data center.

The center is projected to be operational in 2017. Upon its completion, it will hold 100,000 servers.

"Tencent will support the project with sufficient capital, advanced technology and high-quality human resources, making it a world-class data center," said Lu Shan, senior executive vice president of Tencent, during the ceremony.

Tang Zongwei, vice director of the administrative committee of the Liangjiang New Area, said that Tencent's settling strengthened Liangjiang's Internet industry and also reflected the Internet magnate's confidence in the future development of the area. Liangjiang would improve its service quality and investment environment to attract more internationally well-known enterprises to invest and settle in the area, he added.
