Statistics show that industrial output in Liangjiang New Area, Southwest China's Chongqing municipality, during the first three quarters of 2021, has risen to 316.12 billion yuan ($47.42 billion), a year-on-year increase of 29.4 percent.

Meanwhile, the added value of industries above a designated size has surged by 24.2 percent over the same period, 10 percentage points ahead of the municipal average

Liangjiang's two pillar industries – automobiles and electronics – played significant roles in the process. The output of the two sectors reached 115.3 billion and 165 billion yuan from January to September this year.

Represented by auto brands such as Changan, Changan Ford, and SAIC Hongyan, the auto industry of the new area has undergone technical upgrading and expanded its presence in overseas markets.

Major enterprises in electronic information have also enhanced their core competitiveness by cultivating new markets and increasing their supply of products with higher added value.

Wan Jiang, professor of the School of Economic Law at Southwest University of Political Science & Law, said that Liangjiang has demonstrated its resilience even in the face of a new wave of COVID-19, soaring prices for bulk commodities, and a lack of labor and key spare parts.

He also emphasized that the intelligent transformation of traditional manufacturing areas promoted by the Liangjiang government has now taken effect.
