In order to improve the quality of urban design and further raise the brand awareness of Yuelai New City and Chongqing's Expo Center, staff at Yuelai Investment Group took part in a summer camp organized by the internationally renowned landscape designer Martha Schwartz.
This event was supported by Chongqing's Municipal Planning Association. Team members came from three leading landscape design companies in Chongqing Municipality – Riqing, Haofeng, and Yingca, as well as from Chongqing University.
The summer camp kicked off in mid-July and lasted eight days, where conceptual proposals for three projects – Yuelai Exhibition Park, Yunyang Square, and Chengbo Lake – were proposed under the guidance of Martha Schwartz.
Yuelai Investment Group offered the entrance to north square, Chongqing Expo Center (Phase II) as the camp site.
Having had over 30 years of experience as a landscape architect and artist, Martha Schwartz has received a number of highly regarded awards and prizes including the Cooper-Hewitt Museum National Design Award for her body of work in Landscape Architecture, an honorary fellowship from RIBA, several design awards from the American Society of Landscape Architects, and visiting residencies at Radcliffe College and the American Academy in Rome.
The main design concept of Martha Schwartz's landscape urbanism is to value the landscape as the most basic element in urban construction. She emphasizes linkages between various functional spaces, and treats the architecture and the surrounding environment as a whole.
