With an investment of 6.6 billion yuan (phase one), SGMW Chongqing base is located in Liangjiang New Area's International Automobile City, with an annual output of 400,000 vehicles and 400,000 engines. The project started in early 2013, and includes stamping, automobile body manufacturing, painting, assembly and an engine plant and other facilities. An SGMW insider said that the Chongqing base will officially start operations on SMGW's founding day - November 18. Once the construction of the Chongqing base is completed, the company will better meet the market needs of the midwest region, and improve its market competition.
In recent years, SGMW has accelerated its production layout. Currently, it has established three production bases nationwide. Liuzhou Wuling base has an annual output manufacturing capacity of 800,000 vehicle. Qingdao base's capacity is 500,000 and Baojun base's annual production capacity is 400,000. Once the Chongqing base kicks into operation, SGMW’s annual production capacity will exceed two million, covering the South, North and Midwest regions of China.
At present, SGMW's two brands cover commercial vehicles and passenger cars. The passenger car brand Baojun has launched the A-class, A0-class Jiaoce, MPV, crossover vehicles and other models, achieving a good performance in the market. According to the plan, Baojun next year will launch its first SUV model, which is based on the 630 platform and is expected to carry a 1.5T turbocharged engine. In 2016, Baojun will launch A00-Class sedans, which will further enrich the product line.
In 2014, SGMW has launched a number of new models, which promoted its January-July sales to exceed over one million vehicles, making it the best-selling automobile enterprise. Along with the new models on the agenda and its capacity enhancement, it’s expected that the two Wuling brand sales will successfully break two million vehicles in the future, becoming the sales champion of China's own-brand car enterprises.
