The cooling and sterilizing implementation of Chongqing's first large-scale green energy cold storage, using "carbon dioxide cascade refrigeration technology", has entered the finishing stage in Gangcheng Industrial Park, and will soon be put into use.
The cold storage is located in Jiangbei Cuntan Cold Chain Logistics Industry Park, which has had nearly 500 million yuan ($ 81.5 million) invested in it with a cold storage capacity of 100,000 tons. The park provides cold storage, transport, marketing and other services for imported meat, fish, fresh fruits and vegetables in Cuntan Port.
Carbon dioxide cascade refrigeration technology is a non-toxic, harmless refrigeration system. According to the officer in charge of the cold storage, at present, most of the domestic cold-chain process uses ammonia, and fluoride refrigeration technology, where the leaking of ammonia could damage food, and cause diseases to people.
In addition, the leaking of fluoride would harm the atmosphere. Using carbon dioxide as a refrigerant can effectively avoid these hazards as well as ensure food safety and environmental protection for cold chain food.
