With an investment of 560 million yuan ($ 90.29 million), Chongqing Liangjiang Robotics Training and Application Center (College) was formally signed on December 26.
Robotics is a strategic emerging industry in Chongqing Municipal City. In 2013, Chongqing Municipal Government issued “Guidance on Promoting the Development of Robotics Industry” which set the goal of achiving sales of 100 billion yan by 2020.
Liangjiang New Area is the main area for dveloping robotics industry in Chongqing. Tang Zhenwei, deputy director of Liangjiang New Area Administrative Committee, said that Liangjiang plans to impletment “one-area-and-five-platform” mechanism to solve the problems of lacking skilled workers and financing difficulty.
One area refers to robot assembly and key component manufacturing area. And five platforms refer to outcome transfer platform, R & D and monitor platform, education and training platform, financial leasing and support platform, and operation maintenance platform.
Li Guang, chief economist of Liangjiang Group said that five platforms will build the industrial chain for robotics industry. He also said that Chongqing now is lacking 30,000-40,000 skills workers in the robotics industry.
In accordance with “originated in China, world-class standard" principle, Liangjiang Robotics Training and Application Center (College) will have an open platform College, and link seamlessly with various robot enterprises. Upon its completion, it plans to enroll 3000 students, and train 5,000 skilled workers yearly.
Apart from training industry workers for manufacturing, maintenance, operation, and upgrade job positions, major colleges and universities in Chongqing are planning set up Master and PhD courses on robot R & D, and robot design.
Liangjiang New Area will firstly developing robots which can work in the manufacturing environment, and gradually develop service robots for warehousing, transportation and other non-manufacturing environments.
Liangjiang also plan to develop high-tech, and high value-added medical robots, and eventually formed a national robotics industry cluster.
It’s estimated that by 2015, Liangjiang New Area will attract over 30 enterprises with an annual production capacity of 20 billion yuan. Liangjiang also plans to complete a two-square-kilometer industrial park by 2020, which will attract over 200 enterprises and achieve an annual output value of 50 billion yuan.
