2014 key electronic enterprises annual meeting was held on January 7 in Chongqing Municipality, where Guo Jian, director of Chongqing Municipal Economic & Information Commission informed that leading laptop brands such as Acer, Asus, and HP have increased the volume of orders in Chongqing.
Last year, all Acer laptops were produced in Chongqing, so as 90 percent of Toshiba laptops, 80 percent of Asus laptops and 60 percent of HP laptops. Chongqing has become the world's largest notebook computer production base, accounting for 40 percent of the global notebook computer production.
Guo Jian said that last year Chongqing produced a total of 64 million PC units, of which there were 61 million laptops and 300 million tablets. At the same time, Chongqing also produced 13 million monitors, 16 million printers, 100 million Netcom products, and nearly 200 million intelligent terminal products. The average selling price of Chongqing-made notebooks has reached 2700 yuan abroad ($ 435), an increase of 260 yuan on year-on-year basis.
Guo Jian also said 65 laptop supporting enterprises settled down in Chongqing last year, which business covered chip packaging, display modules, batteries, cases, radiators and other core components. Currently, Chongqing's laptop supporting enterprises reached 875.
The increasing laptop enterprises bought the huge demand for workers in the IT industry. An official from Chongqing Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau said that last year, key laptop enterprises in Chongqing recruited 246,000 employees and supporting enterprises recruited 105,000 employees, which means that more than 350,000 are working in the laptop industry in Chongqing.
With the continued increase of laptop orders, the demand for IT workers will also increase. This year, the job openings in the laptop industry are 320,000, an increase of 74,000 on year-on-year basis. The average number of monthly hiring is 27,000.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
