Chongqing's Liangjiang New Area carried out a fire drill on Feb 12 in the busy tourist area of Minguo Street. Tourists and staff members were evacuated during the drill after the alarm sounded, according to the official website of Liangjiang New Area.
More than 100 people participated in the fire drill including the staff members from local enterprises, policemen and fire fighters. The move was aimed at improving the security measures in Liangjiang New Area and boosting public awareness of fire prevention.
Official statistics demonstrate that the number of tourists in Liangjiang's Minguo street has exceeded 2.2 million since its opening to the public in 2012. The increasing number of tourists requires a better security management system to ensure tourists' safety.
