Liangjiang New Area has launched 22 resettlement estate projects over the last five years to relocate farmers in the vicinity.
A total land area of 6.43 million square meters has been taken up by the projects, which are expected to be completed next year and house 110,000 people, according to the Liangjiang administrative committee.
"I was living in a small house in a rural area and now I have moved into a new 80-square-meter resettlement apartment. The new apartment is spacious and full of light," said Xu Bo, who was a farmer from Gaofeng village in Jiangbei district.
To complement the housing projects, Liangjiang also provides training sessions to help relocated farmers find new jobs. So far, 67,400 relocated farmers have found new jobs.
To renovate the dilapidated houses, officials from Liangjiang have carried out a large scale investigation to mark the dilapidated houses. At present, nearly 350 dilapidated buildings have been identified and the renovation work will be carried out soon.
