The construction of a world-class shopping mall, Mall of China, has got underway in Chongqing's Liangjiang New Area.

The foundation stone laying ceremony for the construction project was held in Liangjiang on Aug 30. Ling Yueming, director of the Liangjiang administrative committee, attended the ceremony.

The project has received an investment of around 30 billion yuan ($4.71 billion) and the construction area of the project will be 3.5 million square meters. The mall is expected to become one of the top tourist destinations in the country, as well as one of the most recognizable brands. Themed indoor recreation areas will be constructed to cater for various age groups to better entertain its customers.
