The primary construction work on Chongqing municipality's Road Logistics Base project has been completed, revealed at the 2015 China (Chongqing) Specialized Market Development Summit, held on Sept 23. Once in operation, the logistics project is expected to become a leading national logistics hub.
Companies from five industries, namely, e-commerce, specialized markets, third-party logistics, fourth-party logistics and value added manufacturing, have already entered the base. The base is expected to become the biggest trade and logistics base in Chongqing.
According to the Chongqing municipality, the Road Logistics Base is located in the city's Banan district. The construction plan reveals that the project will occupy a total area of 35 square kilometers, with investment capped at 50 billion yuan ($7.84 billion). The project is expected to be fully operational in 2020, generate an annual production value of 300 billion yuan and create approximately 300,000 jobs.
Since construction began in 2010, the logistics base has introduced more than 20 e-commerce enterprises – such as Jindong – and received a total investment of over 10 billion yuan.
According to an expert from the logistics industry, once the Road Logistics Base is completed in 2020, it will become an important hub, helping to promote Chongqing's opening up. It will also be significant in promoting the city's construction of a commerce center on the upper reaches of the Yangtze River.
